I can now confirm that I will be fighting Dominic Vea for the Commonwealth Cruiserweight title in Sydney on 20 July 2011 as the main under card fight to Danny Green’s IBO World Cruiserweight title defence against former two time world champion, Antonio Tarver. The fight is part of a mandatory title defence for Vea that dictates Vea has to fight the number one contender which is me.
This is the most important fight of my career and I know that I must win this and win it well, if I am to get a world title fight at this division.
I am now comfortable at this weight and hungry to get back in the ring.
The last Commonwealth Champion to come out of New Zealand was Monty Betham Snr in 1975 so I would love to be the next.
Make sure you get a group together and watch the fight live on SKY TV pay per view.
There will be some coverage on the news tonight if you get a chance to watch it. I go into ‘camp’ in a few weeks and the countdown to the fight begins.
While I have been waiting for the fight to be finalized I have been working on some business projects and helping out with some fund raising initiatives. Last weekend I went to Ngatea to speak at a fundraiser for their school Ist XV. It was a great group of people and I really enjoyed getting back out in the rural area.
I also had my daughter up for school holidays which is always a high light for me and we went back home to Gisborne for a few days.
I managed to get some hunting in and killed a few pigs with some mates which was great.
A few weeks before that I went down to Christchurch and went out to dinner with some people as a fundraiser for the Canterbury Earthquake appeal and also spoke to a group of troubled young people in Timaru.
The gym is going well and starting to look really good. My manager Ken reckons its one of the best gyms he has seen in the country so if anyone is in Northcoate Auckland, feel free to pop in and have a look.
Don’t forget 20 July, put it in the diary today – Commonwealth title fight!

As many of you would have seen on the news I have my first fight at Cruiserweight (90.7kg) on the 17 of November in Perth against Australian, Anthony McCracken.
McCracken is ranked No 2 and our fight is the under card of Green's title defence against American BJ Flores with an IBO inter-continental regional belt up for grabs. A win would help line me up for the IBO World Cruiserweight Title against champion Danny Green so it is a big go.
I have also just taking over my own gym on Auckland's North Shore which is the home of Northside Boxing. This is a really exciting opportunity with so much potential and a project which I am really enjoying. There is still a lot to do but as they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day and as I head into camp at the end of next week my focus will be on the fight after all my goal is to win a world title. However between fights, I have plenty of time on my hands so this is a great way to help people, develop the sport and hopefully identify and assist some young talent coming through the ranks.
I saw David Tua for the first time since our fight, we had a yarn about our careers and he couldn’t get over how much weight I’ve lost. People always ask me about the Tua fight and since then I have adopted the motto “It's not how you fall, it's how you rise and that's what builds character". I’m in the business to win a World Title and you just have to create different opportunities to make things happen so for me it is dropping the weight.
Yesterday I went on a fundraising Golf Day for Kidz First Hospital. I am an ambassador for the South Auckland Health Foundation (Middlemore and Kidz First Hospital) so it’s great to help them out whenever I can. I’m not one these people who says I’m going to support something and then not back it up; so there I was in the gale force winds trying to play golf! It was pretty challenging considering I haven’t played for a few years but I was rapt because my team were awesome and it was ambrose golf. Next week before I go into camp I have my daughter coming up so I’m looking forward to that – I might have to take her to mini putt to sharpen up my golf skills!
So that’s the big news we finally have a fight so put Wednesday 17 November in your diary, the fight will be available on pay per view sky so make sure you lock it in.
Cheers

Just letting you know that yesterday we found out my fight on the 21^st July against Danny Ammann has now changed location from Sydney to Challenge Stadium in Perth.
The reason for the change is the main fight with Danny Green struck some issues. His opponent wasn’t sanctioned to fight in Sydney. It’s a bit late notice and I feel sorry for all the punters who have bought ticket to the fight in Sydney but that is the fight industry you just have to go with what the promoters want. I haven’t been to Perth before so I am looking forward to it and we will head off next Sunday.
I was on Hyundai Code last Thursday on Maori TV promoting the fight which was entertaining as you can imagine when Glen Osborne is involved. We have just finished filming the segments for SKY TV’s adverts so they can promote the fight so don’t forget book it on pay per view for July 21 it should be a great night of boxing.

Now it is only two weeks till my fight against Southpaw Danny Ammann. The body is feeling great and training is going really well. I have a new sparring partner from America and all the sparring partners are southpaws which means they lead with their right hand which will help me prepare for the style of Ammann.
I was the guest speaker at the South Pacific Seed function which was a great night at Maxwell’s Golf Retreat in Ramarama near Pukekohe. Charlotte, the General Manager and her team are a fantastic bunch of people and it was a really enjoyable night.
Last week I appeared on Good Morning show on TV1, it was good to be able to promote the South Auckland Health Foundation which looks after Middlemore Hospital and Kids First Hospital on the show. It is an outstanding organisation that provides extra services and equipment for the hospitals and I am rapt to have become an ambassador for them.
I also ripped out my kitchen and put a new one in and as the last kitchen was older than me it definitely needed updating!
This Thursday night I will be on TV show ‘Code’ which is on Maori TV at 8.30pm so if you near the television check it out.
My fight is available on pay per view Sky TV on 21 July so grab a group of mates, book the fight and make a night of it. This is a crucial fight for me to win to get closer to getting a world title shot against Danny Green so it will be all on!

Last Wednesday I visited Kids First Hospital in South Auckland and am proud to be joining the South Auckland Health Foundation as an ambassador. It was a real eye opener to see what some of the people there are going through. The staff in the hospital are amazing and the work that the Foundation does to fundraise and provide more equipment and services is awesome so I am really rapt to get in behind them and try and help as much as I can.
The weight is loss is going well and I am so determined to shed the kilos, it hasn’t been that hard to lose because I enjoy doing a lot of training. I have set myself my goals this year and know that with the biggest challenges come the greatest rewards.
Also last weekend the Sunday News published an article on me which last has received a lot of positive feedback and the photos came out well. There are some exciting times ahead - I’m really looking forward to a fight a date being announced shortly which will most likely be in Australia so watch this space when the announcement is made. Don’t forget to join my Facebook page so you can keep up to date with the latest news.

Once again I am disappointed about the Michael Kirby fight being called off due to his injured eye but that is the nature of this game. Hopefully we will have a fight arranged in the next week or so for June or July so that means it is business as usual for me and I will just keep training at a high level so I am ready for whatever comes up which with any luck will be a fight against Israel Garcia who’s hands are still healing from the David Tua under card fight.
Today my daughter starts school which is a big milestone. I just can’t believe how fast five years has gone – it seems like a lifetime ago since I finished school let alone started it!
Last week I did a few school visits with Youth Pride, which is the programme run by Tea Ropati. I went to Tamaki Collage and Papakura High School where we played some games like Dodge Ball which is always one of the kid’s favourites. The Youth Pride project is a free holiday programme for South Auckland 11 to 17-year-olds and the sessions are run by the likes of Stacey Jones, Logan Swann, Monty Betham, Jerome Kaino, Isaia Toeava, Joe Rokocoko, Anthony Tuitavake and myself. We all really enjoy doing it and the kids seem to get a lot out of it which is important.
When I get some news on my next confirmed fight date and opponent I will let you know.
Cheers

With less than three weeks to go until my fight against Australian Michael Kirby on 24 April at the ASB centre in Wellington everything is going according to plan. My fight against Kirby will be available on pay per view sky and after the last fight I am more eager than ever to put on a great performance.
Easter was fairly quite just business as usual for me but it was nice to go to the gym with no traffic!
I watched the Tua fight and wasn’t surprised that it went the full distance. It was a good win for David and I think that performance will help him reach his goal of fighting for the title.
We are now back into full sparring and I am using three partners including Miyoyo and a new guy, Adam Riley who is a young up and coming fighter. We do three sessions a week until the week of the fight. The guys all rotate and do one round each with me so that I get a fresh person every two to three rounds and as usual sparring will ease off the week of the fight.
People have asked me if it is hard to get back up into fight mode after the Hopoate fight but I have just used the pre fight training as good grounding for this fight and because my pre fight fitness level I have been able to concentrate on other areas. I have still been doing heaps of Cardio and swimming but I’m not the biggest fan of swimming but it has such great benefits and is an ideal component in my training regime so it has to be done!
Hope you all had a good Easter break and enjoyed some eggs for me – they are strictly off my diet until Anzac Day when I can eat whatever I want. Catch you next week…..
Cheers
Shane

I was highly disappointed with the fight against Hopoate in Melbourne especially how John wanted to wrestle and not fight. I trained really hard for this event and wanted to actually fight.
I would have preferred it if the Referee took a point off him and we kept going and perhaps somewhere within the ten rounds I would have actually been able to have an opportunity to box.
I think John’s tactics were to try and mess me up through wrestling. Once that was establish I just tried to use my distance but it never really eventuated as the fight was over in round two when Hopoate got disqualified.
I don’t like winning this way as it is not what the sport of boxing is about. I feel sorry for the people who paid to watch it. In New Zealand we do not get to see a lot of boxing and this has not done the sport any favours.
I only got back from Melbourne yesterday so now my sole focus in on my next fight which is on 24th April in Wellington against Michael Kirby from Australia. Kirby was our replacement fighter when Hopoate initially pulled out of the fight.
He is an up and coming heavy weight who has only had 2 losses, so I am really looking forward to it. Thanks to everyone for their support and I look forward to a better fight next month.
Hopate fight back on
It is great news that the fight is back on with Hopate at The Festival Hall in Melbourne on March 18. It is really important to win this fight, not only to get that winning feeling back but to get back on track to achieving my goals.
The last few months have been fairly busy with the fight preparation and becoming a home owner. I have just bought a house in Auckland and have been doing some landscaping to it which has kept me occupied but I did manage to get in a bit of fishing with the LG boys which was awesome and we even caught some good size snapper. I have also been helping out with Youth Pride which is a free holiday programme run by Tea Ropati and some of the Warriors and Blues. It is a great concept which teaches manners, leadership and teamwork to 11-17 year olds while having a bit of fun along the way.
My fitness is going really well and I start sparring this week and get stuck into the heavy end of training until fight week. I leave for Melbourne at the end of next week so we will be based there until the fight.
Training has been full on and I have a new trainer just to try a different approach. However some things never change and it is back to the super early starts. I have been doing some more cross training and track work over 400m, which is a new method for me in addition to the old sprint work. The purpose of this is to keep the body work rate up at a high intensity for the same amount of time as a fight round.
My hand is fully recovered and feels 100%. I didn’t realise how constraining the rods in my hand were until I had them taken out. I had just got so use to them, but it was a great feeling of freedom with the movement of punching since they have been taken out.
So check this website back in a few weeks and I will let you know how it’s going from across the ditch.
December 2009
I have been keeping busy with speaking engagements and went down to Ashburton with Frank Bunce, Phil Kingsley Jones and Lisa Tamati, where we took part in a guest speaking promotion evening for a Christmas function. As you can imagine with Phil and Frank in the line up, it was highly amusing and Lisa was very inspirational. I also spoke at the Wairoa Sports Awards and spoke in Taupo for one of the Power Station’s (MB Century). That was a great day and the next night in Taupo I was invited to a Primary School Charity Corporate Boxing Night where people who had never fought in the ring had a go. It was a brilliant night of entertainment and raised a lot of money which was fantastic. For the charity ‘KidsCan StandTall’, I have just painted a playhouse to be auctioned off. Even though I’m not much of a painter I really enjoyed the project.
About three weeks ago I had the rods taken out of my hand and it feels great without the metal work in it. The plan is to start punching in January and then once we know how that goes we will arrange a fight. I’m still working hard in the gym as keeping up my fitness is still really important.
For Christmas I will be camping with in that National Park which I’m really looking forward to and then I will be heading to the beach for New Years.
I would just like to thank you all for your support this year and wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and hope you all make the most of 2010.
Cheers Shane

11th August 2009
I started camp last week. The training has intensified and all the preparation is solely focused on my fight against Tua on October 3rd in Hamilton.
The recovery on my hand is complete and I am now just getting some physiotherapy maintenance. The bone is stronger than ever and I am really happy with how it has repaired. I’m training hard with early starts which including running, weights, boxing and swimming. My diet includes plenty of protein and I eat six or seven times a day, mainly scotch fillet, fish and chicken - compliments of the mad butcher, which is great otherwise it would cost me a fortune! I’m very focused with fight being at the forefront of my mind constantly and October 3rd can’t come fast enough for me.
Last weekend I went to Tauranga as a special guest for the TKO Boxing Gym who put on an amateur boxing show. I did the opening speech at the event and thoroughly enjoy watching the talent coming though. I donated a pair of my boxing gloves for the Big Night In Telethon Event that was held last Saturday night and they raised $1200, so that was great to help out.
With only eight weeks to go till the fight against Tua, make sure you have got your tickets and check back here for a weekly update. www.ticketek.co.nz

A few weeks ago I was the best man at my mates wedding in Gisborne. It was a great night and as I did my OE with him, I had plenty of good stories for the speech!
I have just started punching on my hand about seven days ago. I haven’t punched with it since my fight in March so it was great to get it working again. The bone is really strong, so now we are just working on the muscles tissues and ligaments. I am still getting physio and acupuncture which is helping with the movement. In the beginning of August I officially head into camp which is the intensive training and preparation for my fight against Tua on the 3rd of October. I am really looking forward to lifting the intensity and solely focusing on the fight.
Last week I was invited down to Dunedin as a guest of a Kickboxing Show. It was the first time I have been to Dunedin and it wasn’t as cold as what I was expecting. It was a nice city that really reminded me of England. I have also just come back from Hamilton where I was invited as the guest speaker for the Mediaworks function. I really enjoyed the evening and meet some very cool people.
I’ve had a few other projects on the go at the moment and have just launched some new clothes on my website with a new style, which is going really well. My boxing equipment and fitness range that they sell at The Warehouse is moving well and I will be doing some signing sessions in Auckland stores soon, so check back here and I will let you when they are.
Make sure you’ve got the tickets for the fight www.ticketek.co.nz - they are selling fast so don’t muck round. Hope to see you in Hamilton on the 3rd of October!

Myself and manager Ken Reinsfield went to Wymondley Road School to visit the kids. Wymondley is in Otara, Auckland.
I had a great afternoon speaking to the kids, all the kids were given 'Shane the Mountain Warrior Cameron' wrist bands.
The School were also lucky to have 6 police man from the Otara police department to come and play a game of Basketball against the school teachers.
Shane was the ref, The police department must have a court at there office because they showed some advanced skills.
The most important thing is that the kids had lots of fun. I was put on the spot to dance with the kids!! lets just say i will stick to what i know.
Awesome day at an awesome School.

Cameron TKO’s Davis in the 11th round.
The Gisborne crowd was absolutely amazing. The fight was scheduled to be an outdoor event but due to the weather we had to change the venue to an indoor arena two days out from the fight. My manager Ken Reinsfield and team did a great job in changing the venue at such short notice. The venue was packed out with an enthusiastic sell out crowd. Walking to the ring was something I had never experienced before. I have had some great crowds in my time but nothing compared to my homecoming welcome.
In the first round I felt really good. I was hitting Davis with everything I threw and I wobbled him with the first two punches but he held on to survive the first round. Five weeks out from the fight I injured my right hand in sparring but we managed it and continued on with the camp as this was an important fight for me. In the second round after hitting him with a right rip to the body I punched his elbow and it flared the injury back up. I hit him with more right hands in the second and third rounds, then the pain was too much so I was restricted from using it with bad intentions throughout the fight until the 10th round. I started catching him with some good right upper cuts which didn’t seem to hurt my hand as much. He survived the 10th round but I came out strong in the 11th and threw everything at him and the referee stopped the fight.
Everyone was expecting me to finish Davis within 4 rounds but my right hand restricted me from doing that but on a positive note I got a good 11 rounds in the bank so it is great preparation for my next fight against Tua.
I’ve since had an MRI scan on my hand and am awaiting a report from the hand specialist. There is definitely some damage in the right hand but we can’t confirm exactly what the problem is until we see the specialist. At this point in time my mind is set on the 6th June fight against Tua.

Cameron knocks out Kevin Montiy in the 5th round.
The Montiy fight was one of my best performances to date. I had my best camp, great sparring and my conditioning was great as always.
I would have easily beaten any Heavyweight that night. I'm just looking forward to my next camp and destroying my next opponent.
No one is going to stop me from becoming 'Heavyweight Champion of the World'. Kia kaha.

Fight against diabetes in Kawerau.
Kawerau is a very supportive town, I've been to many events in Kawerau. What I love the most is how loyal and passionate they are.
This event was the 'Fight Against Diabetes'. There were some great fights with NZ celebrities including Russell Harrison and Ex Rugby and League players all getting behind a great cause.
I was very impressed with everyones effort and it was great to see Matua Parkinson and Glen Osbourne turn up and put on a comedy display for the 3000 + crowd. As always they put on an entertaining show. My job was easy, I refereed a few fights with the funniest by far being the Oz and Mutts fight. It was all on punching-kicking-holding-wrestling-tackling, haha, you name it they did it.
